FICOD 2008, the Big International Date with the Spanish Digital Content Industry

FICOD 2008 (International Forum on Digital Contents) will be held from the 25th to the 27th of November in Madrid. It will provide space for theoretical and commercial interaction and for the exhibition of the Spanish digital content industry’s capacities.

FICOD has been set up as the major international date for professionals working in television, advertising, cinema, music, videogames, animation, digital publications, online training, digital journalism and interactive marketing so they can exchange experiences and analyze the challenges of the future alongside developers, manufacturers and suppliers of technologies, access infrastructures and services based on the web.

For five days FICOD 2008 will be the meeting point for more than 1,500 delegates from all over the world linked to the creation, distribution and dissemination of digital contents and the development of new technologies, platforms and access and distribution infrastructures.

This year’s FICOD has set out with the clear objective of consolidating the Forum as the main international event devoted to non-English digital contents. The Director of Red.es, Sebastián Muriel, described FICOD 2008 as having “a clear international vocation. It will foster interaction with the Latin American market, will provide knowledge and analysis on the challenges and opportunities of the Spanish language in the digital content industry, and will display the latest trends and state-of-the-art technologies and services in the exhibition area”.

The Program of the Forum will include four full sessions, 22 round tables and 18 workshops in the discussion areas, and will be attended by internationally renowned leaders in each field. FICOD 2008 will also have an Exhibition Area, which will display the latest products and trends on the market, a “Networking” zone, and another area devoted to entrepreneurs in this constantly changing market.

FICOD as part of the Plan Avanza
The International Forum on Digital Contents is part of a series of measures approved by the Ministry of Industry, Tourism and Trade in its Plan Avanza for the development of the Knowledge Economy and convergence with Europe and between the Autonomous Regions of Spain. Specifically, the Plan Avanza aims to accelerate the development of the knowledge economy by fostering the digital content industry, improving the technological skills of the public in general, boosting business R&D, modernizing public services and fomenting the deployment of broad-band infrastructures.

It is being promoted by the MITYC (Ministry of Industry, Tourism and Trade) through the SETSI (Secretary of State for Telecommunications and for the Knowledge Economy) and is being organized by the Public Business Support Body red.es. FICOD 2008 will be the principal area for theoretical and commercial interaction and for the exhibition of the skills of the Latin American Digital Content Industry. Its main objective is to strengthen and boost the relationship between the digital content industry and agents of development in the sector.
