The new Spanish Tourism Plan “Horizon 2020” recently came into force and began to be applied under the Spanish Tourism Plan 2008-2012.

The objectives of the Spanish Tourism Plan “Horizon 2020” are, inter alia (i) to increase the social and economic benefits of tourism; (ii) to achieve a social/territorial rebalance which boosts the tourist business at new destinations; and (iii) to improve the quality of the national and cultural environment by reducing the potentially negative impact of the tourist business.

In order to materialize these objectives, the 2010 ICO-FUTURE Line, endowed with €400 million, was created. This line is aimed at seeking financing, by loan or leasing, for all productive investments in fixed assets (implementation of systems to promote energy savings; works to facilitate accessibility and to eliminate of architectural barriers at tourist establishments for persons with physical or sensorial disabilities; implementation of quality systems, etc.) made by companies which own or operate hotels, tourist apartments, rural lodgings, restaurants, travel agencies or establishments with supplementary tourist offerings.
