INVEST IN SPAIN wins World Investment Conference award for Best Foreign Investment in Europe

The Spanish Agency for the Promotion and Attraction of Foreign Investment, INVEST IN SPAIN, received an award at the 7th World Investment Conference, held in La Baule (France). The conference brings together investment agencies from all over the world. The theme for this year was “Investing in Global Cities: Opportunities in Adversity”.

The prize for “The Best Foreign Investment in Europe. Real Estate-Green Tech” was awarded to Spain this year, and was shared between the Spanish investment agency, INVEST IN SPAIN, and Dutch multinational company, Unibail Rodamco.

The Government Agency, which is part of the Ministry of Industry, Tourism and Trade, was awarded for its work attracting major value-added investments of a highly technological nature in the renewable energy sector.

Unibail Rodamco shared the award because of the investments it has made in Spain over the last three years. The company owns 14 shopping centers in the country and is planning the construction of another in Badajoz. The company has made a strong commitment to the sustainability of its shopping centers by installing state-of-the-art energy efficiency systems and employing solar panels and waste recycling systems.

The Spanish Agency for the Promotion and Attraction of Foreign Investment, INVEST IN SPAIN, is among the best in the world according to a recent report drawn up by the World Bank. The Global Investment Promotion Benchmarking (GIPB) 2009 evaluated the work of 181 Investment Promotion Agencies (IPAs) around the world.

This is the first year the report has evaluated the Spanish agency, which began activities in 2006. It came in 9th position in a ranking headed by Austria, and then Sweden, Germany, Canada and the United Kingdom.
