Foreign investment projects in Spain backed by INVEST IN SPAIN

Since its creation in 2005, the Government Agency INVEST IN SPAIN has participated in setting up 114 company investment projects with foreign capital in Spain. The figure includes projects undertaken with new companies without a presence in Spain, and those involving the development and reinvestments of foreign companies already established in the country.

The figures have meant highly positive wealth and employment creation for Spain, especially important in the current economic climate. The 114 projects have generated an initial investment of 1,215 million euros, and have created around 4,245 jobs.

At INVEST IN SPAIN special emphasis is placed on the attraction of projects with a major technological component and of a high value-added nature that contribute to promoting business competitiveness and productivity in Spain. To this end the Government Agency provides services and expert personnel in the Biotechnology and Pharmaceutical, Environment and Water Treatment, Energy, ICT, Automotive, and Aerospace sectors. These sectors share excellent prospects for future growth in Spain and provide foreign investors with attractive business opportunities. They play a leading role in INVEST IN SPAIN’s portfolio of projects, where they represent 50% of the projects handled to date.

The geographical distribution of investment projects managed by INVEST IN SPAIN shows a clear concentration in the countries of the European Union, which account for around 50% of the projects, mainly from France and Germany. The United States is the third largest origin of investments contributing 12% of the projects. In recent months a significant increase in projects has been detected from emerging countries such as Brazil, India, China and Mexico.
