Irish low-cost airline, Ryanair, has announced it will open its 42nd operations base in the El Prat airport in Barcelona on the 1st of September 2010. The new base will handle 5 planes and 20 low-cost routes. The Catalan airport lost 3 million travelers in 2009.
The new Ryanair routes flying to El Prat will provide 250 direct jobs including pilots, flight stewards and engineers, and require an investment of 286 million euros.
Ryanair will operate 270 low-cost flights a week to and from Barcelona, with the following destinations: Brussels (Charlerio), Cagliari, Dublin, Dusseldorf (Weeze), Edinburgh, Grand Canary, Ibiza, Lanzarote, Malaga and Milan (Bérgamo).
