Intertek, a leading supplier of quality and security solutions for a wide variety of sectors around the world, has set up a new extended laboratory complex in Bilbao’s port area in Spain. The new laboratory is scheduled for opening in the Autumn of 2010.
The new laboratory will house the Intertek Bilbao Technology Centre (BTC). Intertek BTC has provided testing, inspections and certifications in Spain and around the world for more than 30 years in the petroleum and biofuel sectors.
New and improved capabilities include the testing of liquid and gaseous fuels such as biofuels, ethanol, biomass and biogas and the environmental testing of water and polluted land.
The new laboratory has been adapted to fit the strategic vision of the Science, Technology and Innovation plan (PCTI) of the Basque Regional Government.
The Director General for Spain, Ben Fontan explained that: "The new Intertek laboratory is positioning itself to handle tasks involving directives concerning European and Spanish renewable energies and the biofuel sector, and will provide research and experience in the development of biofuels".
Jay Gutierrez, executive Vice-President of the petroleum, chemical, agricultural, and government services division, went on to explain: "Intertek Spain is a major part of the growing testing and inspection network for biomass and biofuels worldwide. This expansion of biofuel testing capabilities in Spain results from Intertek’s commitment to the Spanish and European energy sector".
