INVEST IN SPAIN is a State Company, attached to the Secretariat of State for Trade in the Ministry of Industry, Tourism and Trade, its main mission being to attract, promote and retain foreign direct investment (FDI) in Spain.

We are a young organization, created in 2005 to enable the public sector to provide a better response to the challenges posed by the growing integration of international markets and the consequent increase in competition between companies to attract the best investment projects.

At INVEST IN SPAIN we offer foreign investors comprehensive support for the different phases of investment, facilitating planning and evaluation and helping reduce set up and implementation costs, positioning ourselves as a meeting place where the various Spanish government bodies and the foreign investor can come together. We also provide post-investment services aimed at supporting the development and expansion of foreign investments in Spain.

Supporting us in our activity is the collaboration that we can count on from the 95 Economic and Commercial Offices in Spanish Embassies. This presence is complemented by our own trade representation in eleven countries: Canada, the United States, Mexico, Brazil, France, Germany, the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, Sweden, Japan and India.

We are convinced that it is worthwhile opting for Spain as a destination for investments with a global vocation. Spain is the eighth ranked company in GDP terms, according to the IMF, with a notable international inclination. With a ratio of commercial opening that exceeds 60%, Spain is the 5th highest investing country in the world (2nd in Latin America) and the 6th recipient in the world of FDI. Furthermore, the potential growth in our country of sectors with high added value and technological intensity such as Renewable Energies, ICT, Biotechnology, the Environment or the Aeronautical or Aerospace sectors, with growth levels well above those of the countries in our area, make Spain one of the most valued destinations for foreign investors.

This was demonstrated last year, 2008, in which foreign direct investment in Spain reached the record figure of 43,967 million euros, according to figures published in the Bank of Spain’s Balance of Payments. This figure, which compared with the generalised drop in FDI in practically all developed countries represented an increase of 4.17% over 2007 and is a new historic record, having increased the previous maximum reached the previous year.
