Zeiss Metrología Industrial, the division specializing in metrology solutions within the Carl Zeiss group, has launched an expansion and growth plan in Catalonia which it describes as “ambitious”, designed to reinforce its penetration in Catalan industry.
The German multinational is one of the world leaders in the optical industry. Its industrial metrology division manufactures measuring machines, metrology software and other products for the automobile, aviation, mechanical and plastic engineering sectors.
It has been present in Catalonia for 22 years, although with no facilities of its own since the Zeiss centers operating around the Iberian Peninsula were regrouped in Madrid in 2013 (at their head offices at Tres Cantos).
The largest investment outside Madrid
The first step in the growth plan was the opening of a new work center, the Zeiss Metrology Center Barcelona, in which it invested over 1.5 euros to adapt the facilities and endow them with all the latest industrial measuring technology. This is the largest investment undertaken by the Carl Zeiss Iberia group so far outside the Madrid region.
The new work center is located about 3 kilometers from the Seat plant in Martorell, one of its main clients and with whom it has increased its collaboration in recent years in areas such as chassis and engines. It is also less than 30 minutes from El Prat airport.
The new metrology center is a space of over 600 square meters, and will create 15 new jobs. It will also serve as a workplace for the company's sales and post-sales team in Catalonia, and offer consulting services, demonstrations of its most cutting-edge technology, measuring and training in industrial metrology for its regional clients.
According to Antonio Martínez, director de Zeiss IMT in Iberia: “Catalonia is a very important region for us. This investment represents a firm commitment to continue growing alongside the local industry. We want to support our customers with a more local service geared to their needs”.
