The Japanese company Mitsui has reached an agreement to become a shareholder of Gestamp Automoción, world leader in the design and manufacture of metal components for the automobile industry. Specifically, Mitsui will invest 416 million euros which will give it a 12.525% stake in the Spanish company.
Mitsui's incorporation in Gestamp Automoción will be achieved indirectly through the special-purpose company Gestamp 2020 created by Mitsui, together with ACEK Desarrollo y Gestión Industrial, the company belonging to the Riberas family, the founders of Gestamp Automoción.
Since its creation in 1997, Gestamp has been designing and manufacturing metal components for the automobile industry. Mitsui became a partner in the company in its North and South American operations in 2013, and since then this alliance has brought numerous synergies and business growth thanks to its Japanese customers.
Gestamp currently has 101 production centers in 20 countries and 12 research and development centers. It employs over 33,000 people. According to the financial data from 2015, it is one of the world leaders in sales and in EBITDA among metal component suppliers for automation. Their technology has been adopted by several automobile manufacturers and has contributed to reducing emissions and improving the safety of their vehicles.
