Amazon’s network of logistics centers, distribution centers and logistics stations in Spain continues to grow for the foreseeable future. The American eCommerce giant makes regular announcements, and there are already 25 establishments in its logistics network, which this fall will be joined by another two in the category of logistics stations.
Rubí (Barcelona) and Leganés (Madrid) are the two municipalities that on this occasion will benefit from the arrival of this generator of jobs and investments. The company itself assures that this initiative will create hundreds of job opportunities for drivers and other specific roles in both cities. These jobs will be both direct and indirect, as Amazon Logistics not only has its own delivery service but works with other companies that offer it capacity and flexibility in its deliveries.
Amazon’s aim is to expand the capacity of its supply chain to satisfy growing demand. It has therefore created this network whereby its logistics and distribution centers send the prepared packages to the logistics stations, which are the last point at which the delivery vehicles load up before setting out for their final destination.
According to Paolo Patrone, director of Amazon Logistics in Spain, the two new stations are “somewhat relevant in terms of supporting the local economy through the creation of 200 permanent and quality jobs during the first year of activity of both centers”.
The logistics station in Leganés will have an extension of 24,767 square meters and a parking lot with capacity for hundreds of delivery vans. In its first year it will create 100 permanent jobs and provide work for six independent delivery companies, which will generate more than 200 jobs.
The Rubí station is somewhat larger, at 25,540 square meters, and will also create 100 permanent jobs in its first year, to which will be added over 300 more in the nine collaborating delivery companies. Its delivery area includes Barcelona, Rubí, Sant Steve and Castellbisbal, among other municipalities.
