Hydro Extrusion has initiated a project to improve the production capacity in its plant in Irurtzun (Navarre). The transformation of the extrusion press in this factory will be increased from 9 to 10 inches, making it one of Spain's most advanced aluminum extrusion plants.
The press, which is the Norwegian company's largest in Spain, will be able to produce larger aluminum profiles with high precision and offering the best mechanical properties on the Spanish market. Its designs have an application in multiple industrial sectors, including particularly the automotive, transport, construction and nautical industries.
Pioneer in R&D&I projects
The new press will come online in September, after receiving an investment of 1.5 million euros. According to Ana Vázquez, vice president of Hydro Extrusion in Spain and Portugal: “Our Irurtzun plant in Navarre has always been a pioneer in the development of R&D&I projects. We are proud to incorporate this new improvement that will allow us to offer better solutions in line with the needs of our most demanding customers”.
As with the rest of Hydro's plants in Spain and Portugal, the Navarre plant has the ASI certification (Aluminium Stewardship Initiative), which recognizes responsible production, supply and governance in the aluminum value chain. The company uses local resources, which is why the aluminum profiles it sells in Spain are manufactured entirely in this country.
In this line, the La Selva del Camp plant (Tarragona) works on micro-extrusion and supplies high-precision profiles, whereas the plants in La Roca del Vallès (Barcelona) and Irurtzun (Navarre) produce very large profiles.
