Portuguese company Gipsyy to operate joint routes with Alsa across Europe
Bus connections from Madrid to Lisbon and Porto are the first to be launched.
Two companies specialising in road passenger transport, the Portuguese company Gipsyy and the Spanish company Alsa, have signed an alliance this September to jointly operate international bus routes throughout Europe.
More choice for passengers, greater flexibility and better connections are, for both parties, the main benefits of an agreement that will create "a more attractive and comprehensive transport network in Europe." In the meantime, since 10 September, the two companies have been jointly marketing and operating the Madrid-Lisbon and Madrid-Porto routes.
Latest safety and comfort technologies
Gipsyy and Alsa will soon replicate the model from the Iberian Peninsula to other European countries, with joint international services that each of them currently operates independently. The double-decker buses that have started the new joint routes between Spain and Portugal are equipped with the latest safety and comfort technologies for passengers, including Wi-Fi and USB charging points. In addition to the usual routes, direct services have been scheduled to significantly reduce travel time.
The destinations available between the two countries will be expanded to cover connections between their main cities. Passengers will also benefit from more frequent services and easier connections as ticketing and customer service systems are integrated.
Best travel experience
Gipsyy CEO Nuno Oliveira said that this alliance "creates the largest and most extensive road mobility network between Portugal and Spain, connecting dozens of cities and regions with greater efficiency, comfort and economy for passengers. The combination of Gipsyy and Alsa's expertise, technology and networks will enable us to offer direct benefits to passengers and a better travel experience."
Borja Bermúdez, Alsa's director of international lines, explained, "By joining forces with Alsa and Gipsyy, we are offering our passengers more choice, greater flexibility and better connections. Basically, a service of superior quality. Our alliance has enormous commercial potential to create the largest and most comprehensive transport network between the Iberian Peninsula and Europe."
