Recurrent Energy opens Seville photovoltaic plant
The Canadian Solar subsidiary’s new facility has a capacity of 426 MW.
Recurrent Energy, a Canadian Solar subsidiary specialising in the development, ownership and operation of solar and energy storage assets, has officially opened the Rey Solar photovoltaic plant in Carmona, Seville, which began operating commercially in December 2025.
The new project has an installed capacity of 426 MWp, and its developers estimate that it will generate approximately 916,000 MWh of clean electricity per year. According to standard estimates, this amount is enough to power more than 275,000 homes, while its clean generation will prevent the emission of around 184,000 tonnes of CO2each year. This equates to the emissions from some 25,000 combustion engine vehicles, for example.
Economic and social benefits
As is common practice in many renewable energy projects, Recurrent Energy is complementing its investment in this project with a series of economic and social benefits for the local area, channelled through the collaboration agreement it has signed with Carmona Municipal Council.
Through this agreement, the company will fund community support initiatives and improvements to local spaces, services and infrastructure. It has already helped improve 14 educational centres (nine schools, two institutions for people with disabilities and three adult education institutes) to date, by donating and installing equipment designed to enrich learning environments.
Rey Solar has also helped to boost local employment and support the development of training and workplace skills, thanks to the creation of direct and indirect jobs during both the construction and operating phases. Recurrent Energy has made a firm commitment to prioritising local recruitment, working with training centres and promoting on-the-job training with the aim of supporting employment in the region over the long term.
