It is now the second-largest market in the region, has 1,000 employees and will receive €14 million in investment this year.

The German inspection, certification and technical consulting company Dekra will invest €14 million this year to intensify its growth strategy in Spain, which is already one of the group’s 10 most influential countries and the second most influential in the region encompassing south-western Europe, Africa and the Middle East, only behind France. The investment announced is almost three times more than the €5 million invested in 2025, when the Spanish subsidiary achieved 1,000 direct employees.

The main growth areas that the company is planning in Spain for the next few years are built around three strategic pillars: mobility, digital trust and sustainability. By doing so, it aims to adapt to the three major trends it anticipates through to 2030: the environment and energy transition, digital transformation and artificial intelligence, and digital trust.

Accelerating expansion
Among Dekra’s projects, highlights include the geographical expansion of its MOT network, which grew by 30% in 2025, and the development of capabilities linked to digital trust (its cybersecurity division grew by 56%) and sustainability. Its mixed-growth strategy combines the organic momentum of its current business lines with inorganic transactions that help accelerate its expansion.

Alberto da Silva, the company’s country manager for Spain, says that Spain is “one of Dekra’s most dynamic European markets and has a significant position in the group, due to its current importance and its development potential”, and sets out his priorities for the coming months: “Accelerate the expansion of our regional coverage, particularly through the development and consolidation of our MOT network, and strengthen our capabilities in energy transition and cybersecurity, with a particular focus on certification and conformity services”.

Trebling MOT stations
Just three years after it began vehicle roadworthiness testing operations in Spain, this activity has become one of its main growth drivers in the country. In 2026, it plans to open its ninth station in the Autonomous Community of Madrid, double its four stations in Extremadura, including an agricultural mobile unit, and open the five currently planned for the Canary Islands. The aim by 2030 is to triple the current size of its network through organic growth, public tenders and acquisitions.

In the field of digital trust, Dekra inspects products, software, infrastructure and, increasingly, the artificial intelligence models involved in connected systems. Its three and five-year strategy is to stay ahead of its customers’ needs and the evolving regulatory framework.

As Alejandro Torrecilla, Managing Director of Dekra in Malaga, explains, “We certify connected devices and cars, test mobile apps used by millions of people, audit cloud services from leading technology companies and certify cryptographic modules and chips that protect their communications. To put this into perspective, we are talking about technologies, products and systems that are already part of the everyday lives of millions of people around the world.”

Adapting to new regulations
In the field of sustainability, the company is also committed to developing services based on new battery certification regulations. In systems certification, it works to support companies in verifying guarantees of origin for non-fossil fuels, such as hydrogen and biomethane. It is also developing its support services for wind energy.

In consulting, it helps its clients safely develop hydrogen, biomethane, green ammonia, energy storage systems (BESS), carbon capture (CCUS) and battery gigafactory projects. The director of Dekra Advisory & Training in Spain, María Cabrelles, explains that “we are currently supporting clients primarily in the project phase, but we also want to guide them through the operational phase”.
