IWG brings luxury coworking brand to Spain

A building in the Salamanca neighbourhood has been chosen as its first establishment, with other openings in the pipeline

International Workplace Group (IWG), a British company specialising in flexible workspaces, has announced the opening of what will be the first coworking space in Spain under its most exclusive brand, Signature, in the third quarter of this year. Located in Madrid's Salamanca neighbourhood, on the corner of Calle Velázquez and Calle Goya, the company aims to take advantage of the luxury trend that it has identified in the capital.

Signature's workspaces are often located in iconic locations that help add an air of exclusivity. The buildings merge customised offices for their clients with coworking spaces that encourage productivity and creativity.

Environmental efficiency certification
The first Spanish-based Signature establishment, owned by Swiss insurer Zurich, has recently been transformed by architect Rafael de La Hoz's studio and awarded Leed Gold environmental certification. Four floors will accommodate up to 330 workstations and a 487 square metre terrace.

The head of IWG in Spain, Philippe Jimenez, is very happy "to bring IWG's flagship brand to the most prestigious area of Madrid, which has a very active business community". He added, "We want the clients who work in this coworking space to feel proud and we will continue to expand our presence across the country, bringing a hybrid model of working to many more people.”

Presence in Spain
The new establishment will add to the 61 workspaces that IWG already has in Spain with its Regus, Spaces and HQ brands, and which adapt to the different needs of their users. In 2021 alone, the company opened seven new centres in Spain with a total of 22,000 square metres dedicated to coworking. HQ was the previous innovation as a brand that was introduced to Spain last year with centres in Las Rozas (Madrid) and Barcelona.

Although the majority of the new openings have been in Barcelona and Madrid, the British company's strategy is to establish workplaces in all the provincial capitals. In fact, this year it plans to open centres in cities like Zaragoza, Logroño and Santander.
