Three Spanish energy companies among world's best for sustainability

According to the latest S&P Dow Jones Sustainability World Index

Iberdrola, Endesa and Redeia are among the best energy companies in the world for sustainability, as stated in the latest report from the S&P Dow Jones Sustainability Index (DJSI).

Iberdrola featured once again in the DJSI, making it the only European utility to be included in all 23 editions of the index.

The energy company is thereby demonstrating the group's steadfast commitment to the highest environmental, social and corporate governance standards, given that from an initial group of 10,000 companies, only the 10% with the highest sustainability scores are finally selected.

For Iberdrola, this evolution is the outcome of a model based on sustainable development, which has led Iberdrola to become a world leader in renewable energy generation, with an installed renewable capacity of more than 39,000 megawatts (MW) and over 80% emission-free electrical energy production at the end of Q3 2022.

Enel and Endesa achieved the highest scores in their history in the Dow Jones Sustainability World Index (DJSI World), following the annual evaluation of sustainability practices conducted by S&P Global.

For the first time Enel actually achieved a score of 90 out of 100, almost three times the average for the industry, and the second highest overall score, while its Spanish subsidiary, Endesa also achieved an individual record-breaking score of 89 points, three points higher than last year.

Enel is in addition one of the eight global energy companies that feature in the DJSI World, together with Endesa. The company achieved the second best score and continues to lead the DJSI family of indices, with four companies among the ten highest scorers, including Enel Chile in sixth place with 88 points, and Enel Americas in ninth place with 87 points.

Endesa heads the leader board of 15 Spanish companies in the DJSI World Index and is also the energy company with the fourth highest score after Terna (91), its parent company Enel (90) and EDP (90).

Endesa's evolution in this leading world sustainability index is highly positive, moving from 83 points in 2015 to 89 in 2022. The company has improved in all three dimensions evaluated: the economic dimension (89 points), the environmental dimension (87 points) and the social dimension (93 points), achieving a score of over 90 in 17 of the 27 criteria evaluated. In 11 of these criteria, the company achieved the maximum score of 100 points.

Redeia, the parent company of Red Eléctrica, Reintel, Hispasat, Rediner and Elewit, has once again been recognised by the prestigious Dow Jones Sustainability Index (DJSI) as one of the most sustainable companies in the world.

In this index, produced by the S&P Global Corporate Sustainability Assessment, the company obtained an overall score of 86 points out of 100 to become one of the 15 Spanish companies included in this index, the foremost global sustainability benchmark.

Redeia, a global manager of essential infrastructure, achieved the maximum score (100 points) for the industry in six of the areas analysed: materiality, codes of business conduct, policy influence, innovation management and social and environmental reporting. They also scored highly in other aspects such as climate strategy, corporate citizenship and privacy protection.

This recognition demonstrates the ongoing efforts and commitment of Redeia in helping to ensure a more sustainable, inclusive and resilient future for people and the planet.
