Japan's Telstar Boosts Barcelona Headquarters with Modern Industrial Complex

It will bring together all its facilities, which are currently spread over eight sites, in one single centre

Telstar, which specialises in the engineering and construction of installations and equipment for companies in the pharmaceutical and biotechnology sector, is currently engaged in modernising its Catalan headquarters. The company, owned by Japan's Azbil Group, is combining its integrated solutions development activities into a single site to cover all process stages, thereby establishing a new, complete and fully-equipped critical facility.

The new facilities will focus on all the company's existing activity in Catalonia, currently spread over eight centres located in the Vallés Occidental region. The plan is to build three additional modules next to the headquarters and to form a modern industrial complex with a floor area of 16,000 square metres.

Global R&D&I Division
On completion during the first half of 2023, 70% of the resulting space will be used for production plants. The facility will also house corporate services, including the brand's global technology department, to which the R&D division reports. Other activities to be brought under one roof as part of the complex will be engineering, construction and consultancy services.

The technology company has several production plants in Catalonia, where it manufactures and assembles complex and technologically challenging equipment for the life sciences sector. It is also active in the fields of product innovation and development, automation and robotic applications, IT and GMP digitisation solutions for regulated processes and logistics management, and in addition to optimisation support and technical and customer services. It also has technical training centres and laboratories for developing and optimising freeze-drying and sterilisation processes for customers.

Energy and Aerospace Sectors
The building resulting from the ongoing expansion will be adapted to the specific conditions and requirements for environmental quality, manufacturing and equipment qualification demanded by the biopharmaceutical industry. Another activity to be performed in the new building is the development of solutions that apply vacuum and high vacuum technologies used for traditional industry and high-tech industry in the energy and aerospace sectors, as well as instrumentation for scientific research and development.

By bringing all its activities together at a single site, the company aims to improve efficiency and increase production flexibility. All current production plants will gain space in their new location and will improve delivery times to customers by optimising the production flow. The boiler facilities will be installed in a stand-alone building next to these plants, in addition to a warehouse that was built in 2019 and has a capacity of 22,300 cubic metres.

The Madrid facility will continue to develop its engineering, construction and consultancy activities, within the context of the company's multi-plant management model, which includes close collaboration between its technology centres around the world. Telstar's goal is to ensure that its

three main manufacturing sites, located in Spain, the UK and China, reach a total area of 28,000 square metres by 2024, doubling its current production capacity to meet demand.
