The logistics company Americold Realty Trust, which specialises in temperature-controlled storage facilities for the food industry, has opened its expanded facilities in Santa Perpètua de Mogoda (Barcelona). The work entailed constructing eleven new loading bays and storage capacity for a further 12,000 pallets.

The US company’s logistics facility is located in the La Torre del Rector Calle industrial park. Thanks to this expansion, storage capacity at the facility has almost doubled to 20,000 pallet positions, with different areas for frozen, chilled and ambient produce.

Value-added proposal
The plant also offers order preparation and transport services, as well as other value-added offerings, and with which it aims to boost the service provided to its customers in Spain and throughout Europe. The Santa Perpètua facility is one of four cold storage facilities that Americold has in Spain. The others are located in Valencia, Algeciras (Cádiz) and Palau-solità i Plegamans (Barcelona).

The CEO of the logistics company, George Chappelle, explains the reason behind the expansion of one of the Catalan facilities, “We are continuing to expand our operations to support our customers’ needs. This Barcelona expansion reflects our most recent investment in expanding our global presence and fulfilling our mission to help our customers feed the world.”

Specialised investment group
Americold is a publicly traded real estate investment trust that invests in property assets around the world and focuses on owning, operating, acquiring, and developing temperature-controlled warehouses. Based in Atlanta, Georgia (US), it owns and operates 242 temperature-controlled warehouses in North America, Europe, Asia-Pacific and South America.

The company has been operating in the industry for 120 years and has a portfolio of around 4,300 customers. The majority of its storage facilities are in its country of origin (195). In Europe, it has 27 facilities, four of which are in Spain.
