Dedalus opens digital healthcare R&D hub in Barcelona

It is partnering with Barcelona Health Hub to accelerate the digital transformation of the sector
The Italian company Dedalus, which specialises in healthcare software and clinical diagnostics solutions, has moved its Catalonia offices to Sant Pau, the iconic Art Nouveau site designed by the architect Lluís Domènech i Montaner, which was a functioning hospital for nearly a hundred years. More than just a change of address, the move is part of its new alliance with Barcelona Health Hub, a non-profit association occupying three pavilions in this unique complex.
In its new premises, Dedalus has announced the opening of a digital healthcare R&D hub which it will use to drive the development of components in its healthcare software, analysis and artificial intelligence platform. This high-performance centre will also be used for the national and international rollout of its open healthcare information platform (HCIS), based on the openEHR model, and to develop disruptive, innovative projects for its clients all over the world.
The Catalan innovation ecosystem
The alliance with Barcelona Health Hub reflects Dedalus’ desire to take on a more active role in the Catalan innovation ecosystem, accompanying healthcare organisations and the life sciences sector in their digital and technological transformation process in order to improve the experience of patients and professionals. The Italian tech firm has been working in Catalonia for over twenty years, with clients that include Roche Diagnostics, the Parc Taulí, Mútua Terrasa, Sant Joan de Déu and Fundació Puigvert hospitals, and the insurer MC Mutual.
The general manager of Dedalus Iberia, Marisa Felipe, told us that Barcelona is “a city where digital healthcare drives growth in the local economy, positioning it as a great source of specialist talent, our most valuable asset,” adding that, “We are proud and delighted to set up our first head office in Catalonia, in a centre of European and worldwide digital healthcare like Barcelona Health Hub, closely linked to our mission of adding value to the healthcare ecosystem with innovative solutions based on an open tech stack and developing projects with worldwide impact together with our clients in Catalonia.”
Barcelona Health Hub, founded in 2018 to encourage interaction among the various actors involved in the transformation to digital healthcare and its transference to the sector, has over 400 members, including startups, corporations, healthcare institutions, universities, and investors. According to its general manager Eva Rosell, “It is a great opportunity for the Barcelona Health Hub ecosystem to have a benchmark company, with experience in working with major healthcare systems, and in developing digital solutions with our community.”
