JYSK opens distribution centre to boost growth in Spain

Located in Castellón, it will generate around 250 jobs when it comes into operation between 2027 and 2028
Home furnishing retailer JYSK has announced the acquisition of a 274,000 square metre plot of land in Almenara, in the south of the province of Castellón. Directly related to its expansion plan, the acquisition is the first step towards the future construction of a new distribution centre that will serve the brand's shops in Spain and Portugal.
The retail company currently has a total of 128 shops in Spain and 25 in Portugal. After having passed the milestone of 150 stores on the Iberian Peninsula, the company now needs to strengthen its logistics setup in order to support its growth. In fact the aim is to open another thirty new shops before the end of this year, and to upgrade a further twenty, adapting them to the new concept.
Energy for self-consumption
The plot, until now owned by the family-run Bertolín Group, will accommodate a modern, state-of-the-art building, being equipped to both supply the Danish company's shops and to deliver products directly to customers in Spain and Portugal. The design will be similar to the one shown here, which has been developed for construction in the Netherlands.
The building will have two high-bay warehouses where around 150,000 pallets of products can be stored. It will have several docks for loading and unloading trucks, and will produce energy to cover its own consumption needs, thanks to the installation of solar panels on the roof.
New headquarters
The new facilities will also serve as the new headquarters for JYSK Spain and Portugal, and around 250 people will work at the new building, serving both regions. The company currently employs a total of 1,400 people across the two countries. The current distribution centre and the headquarters in Cheste (Valencia) will continue to operate until the new centre is opened, between 2027 and 2028.
JYSK's Executive Vice President Logistics Ole Thomsen explained, “Our new distribution centre in Almenara is the next step in further strengthening our logistics setup. In November last year, we opened a new distribution centre in Hungary, and are currently planning another one in the Netherlands. Thanks to our continued growth, we need to invest in more logistics so that we can continue to deliver our excellent Scandinavian solutions to our customers”.
