QbD acquires life sciences consultancy Azierta

The Belgian group will employ over 100 people in Spain with the addition of 70 new employees

The QbD Group, which specialises in providing comprehensive support to companies in the life sciences sector, has announced the acquisition of Azierta, a Spanish consultancy firm that has been active in the same field for more than twelve years. The addition of the 70 employees from this Madrid-based company will reinforce the team at its Barcelona office, bringing the total number of life sciences and healthcare experts to more than 100.

Azierta's remit is to provide services in areas such as pharmacovigilance, compliance and GxP, regulatory matters, audits and certification, as well as scientific and medical fields. Most of its customers are active in the field of pharmaceuticals and medical devices, and it supports them throughout the entire life cycle of their products or services.

Scientific and regulatory experience
Two of the main services provided by Azierta are life sciences product surveillance support and the provision of strategic scientific and regulatory expertise. It was precisely these offerings that attracted the attention of the Belgian company, which wanted to round off its portfolio of complementary services and expand its presence in Spain.

The combined experience and capabilities of the two companies aim to improve customer service with more comprehensive, integrated solutions. One of their joint objectives will be to expand their resources in Portugal and Latin America.

Shared values
QbD Group founder and CEO, Bart van Acker, welcomed the purchase, “We have had a presence in Spain since 2015, but together with Azierta, we will become one of the largest groups in the Spanish life sciences ecosystem. Moreover, we will also bring additional expertise to the group that we can scale to all QbD Group clients. Even in our first conversations, I felt that Azierta and QbD shared the same values, so I am confident that we can achieve great things together.”

Azierta's founder and CEO, Ángel Navarro, said, “I feel that my dream as founder of the Azierta concept will be successfully developed and promoted within this collaboration. This project maintains the essence of what we have been doing, adding the synergy, vision and organisation of an innovative, international and cross-cutting group like QbD. I have had this dream for 12 years, and now I am excited to continue making it a reality together with QbD as I help them share their scientific and business value with Iberia and Latin America.”
