Software provider Visma acquires Canary Islands-based Quaderno

This is the company’s fourth purchase in Spain, where it expects to exceed 25 million euros in revenue this year

Norwegian software provider Visma has just closed its fourth purchase in Spain since it arrived in the country in 2021. On this occasion, it has travelled to Las Palmas de Gran Canaria to close the acquisition of Quaderno, a cloud-based software company whose automated solution helps customers around the world calculate the correct tax rates, based on data like customer location and the type of product or service sold.

Quaderno's cloud-based platform supports over 14,000 tax jurisdictions and also contains features for tax calculations, tax reporting, invoicing, tax notifications and expense tracking. The firm was founded in 2014 and currently has more than 2,600 customers in 104 countries. In this new phase, it will continue to operate as an independent company under the same management.

Spanish software market
Alicia Halaas, Business Area Manager for the Small Business segment at Visma, welcomed the acquisition, “We are delighted that Quaderno is becoming part of the Visma family. Through this acquisition, we are further expanding our presence in the Spanish software market, and also strengthening the group's e-commerce solutions offering. Complying with tax regulations can be a challenge for online sellers operating in a global marketplace, but Quaderno makes it easy”.

Quaderno founder and Managing Director, Carlos Hernandez Medina, said, “At Quaderno we are very happy to start a new phase within the Visma family. With access to their resources and extensive experience, we will be able to reinforce our growth strategy and establish Quaderno as one of the world's leading automated tax management platforms”.

Purchase history
In mid-2021, Visma arrived in Spain for the first time and closed the acquisition of Holded, returning in April 2022 to make two further acquisitions in just one week: - the online tax consultancy for entrepreneurs Declarando, and time and attendance software provider Woffu.

Having now signed the paperwork for its fourth transaction, the Scandinavian company expects revenues from its Spanish operations to reach 25 million euros this year, and with the  expectation that growth will continue in the coming years.
