Vodafone Spain Gives Priority to Local Supplier Purchases

In 2022-2023, it spent 1.322 million euros on products and services and 552 million euros on infrastructure
According to its latest sustainability report, Vodafone Spain allocated 90.2% of its total turnover from the sale of products and services to local suppliers in the 2022-2023 financial year. The British company said that it contributes to the Spanish economy by disbursing over 1.322 million euros on these items.
In terms of investment, Vodafone Spain spent 552 million euros on network infrastructure, systems, and equipment. This amount was in fact used to deploy 5G networks in 1,156 municipalities and 2,600 new nodes to improve indoor coverage. 4G networks were also deployed in more than 7,644 municipalities, including all those with more than 5,000 inhabitants, amounting to 99.62% of the population.
Internet of Things
Narrowband Internet of Things (NB-IoT), Vodafone Spain's most distinctive offering, now covers all provincial capitals and their surrounding areas. The network has a total of 15,781 sites, and the company recorded over 5.2 million active lines at the end of March, marking a 27% increase from the previous year.
Furthermore, the Vodafone Spain Foundation allocated 2.4 million euros towards social causes during its last financial year, from April 2022 to March 2023. It mainly invested in training students and teachers in digital skills. The DigiCraft en tu cole project reached more than 570 schools, trained over 1,750 teachers and reached over 51,100 primary school pupils.
Energy efficiency and cybersecurity
Improved energy efficiency led to a 5% reduction in the company's total energy consumption in the last financial year. Particularly noteworthy was the 14.5% reduction in energy consumption for fixed and mobile network data traffic, even though data demand grew by 11.4%. Its smart metering technology did at the same time reduce associated emissions by 50%, and more than 1.3 million devices were collected, 93% of which were reused and the rest recycled.
In the cybersecurity area, the Secure Net tool provided protection to its customers and succeeded in blocking around 8.4 billion cyber threats in a single financial year.
