Accenture committed to Spain’s energy transition capacity

The acquisition of Boslan is the consulting firm’s first in Europe in the field of infrastructure projects.
The consulting firm Accenture has once again demonstrated its interest in the capabilities of Spanish companies by acquiring Boslan, which specialises in managing large infrastructure projects. The aim is to transfer this experience to its clients so that they can optimise their infrastructure investments and achieve carbon neutrality. This is the first acquisition that the Irish-based consulting firm has made in Europe in the field of infrastructure projects.
Boslan, based in Bilbao, will enable Accenture to reinvent its engineering and consulting services to help clients execute major infrastructure projects for energy transition. Among other innovations, it will apply artificial intelligence and other digital technologies to the asset lifecycle. It will be able to improve its clients’ return on investment and accelerate their carbon neutrality.
Critical infrastructure
The Basque company has a track record of helping its clients design and supervise the construction of infrastructure ranging from onshore and offshore wind farms to solar power plants, smart grids, electric-vehicle charging infrastructure, hydrogen plants, data centres and other critical infrastructure.
Boslan's regular services also incorporate feasibility studies, project planning, cost and quality control, contract negotiation and management, design reviews, equipment procurement assistance and fieldwork supervision. Its clients include both private and public companies working in the fields of renewable energy, oil, gas, networks, data centres and other types of infrastructure.
Growing workforce
Over 1,000 engineers and experts in project management will join Accenture, most of them based in Spain and Brazil. They will join the Infrastructure and Capital Projects division in the Industry X business unit. Boslan also has a presence in Portugal, the United Kingdom, the United States and Mexico.
The President of Accenture in Spain and Portugal, Mercedes Oblanca, welcomes the Boslan professionals and says that Spain is “at the forefront of the energy transition due to our country’s experience, knowledge and capabilities in this industry”.
Leading the transition
The company's Senior Managing Director of Industry X in Spain, Julio Juan Prieto, takes this premise one step further and asserts that Spanish companies in the energy and infrastructure sectors “are leading the transition to renewable energy and ensuring that low-emission energy is competitive,” adding that, “Boslan has helped through managing many pioneering projects in this field”.
The Basque company's CEO, Isaac Gómez, stressed that joining Accenture “allows us to expand our services to our clients with advisory and transformation capabilities, advanced technology and global geographic reach”.
