DSV commits to Southern Europe and opens new facility in Barcelona

The company has expanded its Spanish fleet with 160 new vehicles
Logistics company DSV Road Spain has expanded its Spanish fleet with 160 new mega trailers in order to strengthen its capacity and market presence. The road transport division has reached a total of 630 units registered in Spain. The new semi-trailers have been manufactured by Schmitz Cargobull in Figueruelas (Zaragoza), where the group's most modern plant is located.
The vehicles will be added throughout the first half of this year to the Danish company's various land transport branches in Spain. All of them are equipped as standard with TrailerConnect technology, which makes it possible to equip them with sensor systems, keep them connected by GPS in real time, and monitor their tyre pressure to reduce everything from breakdowns to fuel consumption and carbon dioxide emissions.
Load Optimisation
With a height of three metres, allowing up to three levels of pallets to be stacked, the mega trailers can optimise the load up to 99 pallets. Some units will be double-deckers, and there will be special gauge equipment for transporting oversized goods.
Senior Director of FTL and Automotive in Spain, Javier Pablo, justified the operation due to the highly competitive nature of his market and praised it as “DSV Road Spain's firm commitment to strengthening our local presence and addressing the growing demands of road transport, emphasising our operational capacity and reaffirming our commitment to the industry, especially the automotive industry”.
A workshop of its own
By the end of 2024, DSV Global Equipment will open its first workshop in Spain in Barcelona. It will add to the five it has strategically located throughout Europe. The company operates in Spain from its office in the Catalan capital, where it already offered trailer and tyre maintenance services, MOT assistance and roadside assistance.
DSV Global Equipment Services Senior Director Flemming Steiness explained, “We believe there are great opportunities in southern Europe. And because we can offer a fast and reliable service to customers, we can increase the value, efficiency and quality of our DSV company services.”
Airfreight terminal
Last November, the Danish company launched the new DSV Air Priority Lounge service at Josep Tarradellas Barcelona-El Prat airport, with which it plans to optimise processes and shorten operating times. Located in the cargo area of the airport, it benefits from having a highly specialised team.
Designed to streamline air shipments, while also ensuring control and security, the new facility allows for precise management of the cold chain and dangerous goods. Health and chemicals are the sectors that have benefited most from its creation.
