Indigo closes new investment in Spain with great strategic potential

It is adding more than seventy car parks to its international portfolio and more than 38,000 parking spaces in Spain and Andorra
The Indigo Group has completed the acquisition of Parkia, adding more than seventy car parks to its network and over 38,000 parking spaces managed by the Spanish company in Spain and Andorra. This is the largest operation the French group has undertaken in the last twenty years. It has been supported in the process by its shareholders Crédit Agricole Assurances, Vauban Infrastructure Partners and MEAG.
The Parquia network will now operate under the Indigo brand, which reinforces its position as the world's largest operator with over 2,700 car parks. In Spain, it now ranks second after the purchase with a total of 167 car parks and more than 185,000 parking spaces.
Combining talent and culture
Already approved by Spain’s National Markets and Competition Commission (CNMC), the purchase provides Indigo with a presence for the first time in Galicia and the Valencian Community, which it describes as key regions, and in Andorra, the seventh European country and the tenth in the world where it is present.
Indigo Spain's CEO, Álvaro Busca Martín-Sanz, explains that this purchase "has great strategic potential for the group. The combination of the stability and longevity of Parkia's many concession contracts, coupled with Indigo's diversified business lines, provides ample opportunity for improvement and growth."
Regarding its evolution in the market, Busca says that "it's about bringing together talent and culture, experience and knowledge, ideas and people. For all these reasons, we firmly believe that in the near future we will be the leading car park operator in Spain."
Low-Emission Zones
One of Indigo's major challenges is to respond to the new needs arising from traffic regulation in the centre of large cities, especially in low-emission zones. Its "Go for climate" climate plan, launched in 2021, has its own emissions reduction targets for 2025.
To achieve this, the company is working on designing more environmentally sustainable car parks, investing in efficient lighting, promoting alternative mobility solutions by increasing bicycle parking and contributing to the expansion of electric vehicles. With its sustainable procurement guide, it does in addition aim to promote sustainable practices among its suppliers.
