Palletways boosts Barcelona hub with Italy connection

It is the company's third in Spain and will soon add new European routes.
One year after its launch, the Palletways regional hub for Catalonia and the Balearic Islands, located in Barcelona, has gained international status with a route connecting it to Italy having been created. In the first phase, it will be a direct, one-way connection, with the Milan hub running daily. The company plans to link the Catalan capital with other European locations in the near future.
The internationalisation of the Barcelona hub will thus serve to optimise routes, costs, delivery times and carbon dioxide emissions. With previous daily connections from Madrid and Zaragoza, the new route will make the connection between Spain and Portugal and Italy faster and more direct, with a one-day reduction in delivery times by avoiding the Clermont-Ferrand hub in France.
Growth strategy
Barcelona has become Palletways' third international hub on the Iberian Peninsula, alongside Madrid and Zaragoza. With the new route, the company, which specialises in express distribution of palletised goods, is strengthening a hub that has been a great success in its first year of operation. In 2023 it actually transported over 40,000 pallets, providing coverage from Barcelona’s LAZ (Logistics Activity Zones) to the northeast.
Palletways Iberia’s Managing Director, Gregorio Hernando, explained, “Thanks to the work carried out by Palletways Iberia’s amazing team, we made the long-awaited Barcelona hub a reality last year, and now we are taking a natural step to transform it into the third international hub in Spain and Portugal, alongside those in Madrid and Zaragoza. This marks a new milestone in our strategy for growth, international expansion, route optimisation and, of course, carbon footprint reduction.”
Future routes
As Hernando says, running daily departures from Barcelona to Milan “is just the beginning of the potential offered by this hub. This achievement reflects our unwavering commitment to service excellence and customer satisfaction at every step.”
Founded in the UK in 1994, Palletways has developed a strategic network since its inception, including over 400 warehouses and more than 20 hubs serving 24 countries in Europe.
