ICEX and the Economic and Commercial Office of Spain in Singapore promote the internationalisation of Spanish venture capital

The objective of the mission is to open up new opportunities for Spanish venture capital funds in the country's dynamic entrepreneurial ecosystem..

ICEX-Invest in Spain and the Spanish Economic and Commercial Office in Singapore have organised, together with SpainCap, the Spanish Private Equity Association, a business mission to Singapore. The action, which took place on 11 and 12 November, aimed to open up new opportunities for Spanish venture capital funds in the dynamic technology entrepreneurship ecosystem of the Asian country.

The mission focused on two fundamental goals. On the one hand, to provide a better understanding of the investment opportunities available to Spanish venture capital firms, and on the other hand, to facilitate bilateral contacts focused on fundraising and co-investment. This initiative has enabled participants to create strategic connections with key players in the market, such as local investment funds, entrepreneurs, universities, institutions and technology development centres.

The mission programme included a series of activities such as visits to benchmark institutions, where participants had the opportunity to meet entities such as Vertex Holdings, a leading venture capital firm of the TEMASEK group in the Southeast Asia; Start2, a startup support platform; EDB (Economic Development Board) and Enterprise Singapore (EnterpriseSG), the government agency in charge of boosting business growth and the internationalisation of local companies.

Meetings were also held to strengthen ties between Spanish and Singaporean players in the investment and entrepreneurship ecosystem. These included a reception for more than 75 relevant representatives of the Singaporean ecosystem, including family offices, venture capital, private equity and universities, with the aim of creating a space conducive to the exchange of experiences and the identification of opportunities for collaboration. An official reception was also held at the residence of the Spanish ambassador to Singapore, attended by 40 Spaniards based in Singapore, all linked to the investment and entrepreneurship ecosystem, with the aim of consolidating connections between the two markets.

Finally, the mission was completed with 104 individual meetings, tailored to the specific objectives of each participant, with key players in the local ecosystem. These meetings were coordinated by ICEX-Invest in Spain and the Economic and Commercial Office of Spain in Singapore, to maximise opportunities to establish strategic alliances and explore concrete collaborations.
