Stef to invest 27.5 million euros in second logistics platform in Barcelona

It will create two hundred new jobs when the facility starts operations
The French company Stef, specialised in temperature-controlled transport and logistics solutions for food products, has started the construction of its second platform in Barcelona. The operation will involve an investment of 27.5 million euros. When it becomes operational, it will generate more than 200 jobs, which will be added to the more than 300 direct employees the company already has in Catalonia.
Located in the town of Sant Vicenç dels Horts, the platform is built on a plot of 26,100 square metres. The building will have a floor area of 11,810 square metres and will have 21 loading bays. It will specialise in the transport and storage of frozen food products at -25ºC, and will provide special storage and order picking services, co-packing and a container unloading area.
Environment and sustainability
The company's commitment to the environment and sustainability has been paramount in the design of the platform. It will for example include a cooling installation that uses 100% natural refrigerants. In addition, the building will be equipped with reinforced insulation in walls and floors, automatic doors, power variators in all cooling equipment and 100% LED lighting.
The project also includes a photovoltaic plant that will produce a significant part of the energy required to operate the facility. According to the company, this new platform will support both the national and international development of the local agri-food industry thanks to its extensive network of more than 270 platforms in Europe.
Commitment to the agri-food industry
The general manager of Stef Iberia, Fabrice Carré, said that this new platform "represents Stef's commitment to the agri-food industry, as well as its environmental commitment, by creating a new platform that meets the highest standards of sustainability and ensuring the safety and quality of life of our employees".
Referring to the future customers of the new facility, Carré added, "We are very proud to have one of our main customers on board, Iceland Seafood, with whom we share culture and values. A world-leading cod company from Iceland who will join us in the future development of this new platform."
