Digi invests 88 million in ultrafast fibre optic network deployment

The Romanian company’s network now reaches 12.5 million homes in Spain.
Telecom operator Digi invested 88 million euros in Spain in the first quarter of 2025. This figure has been earmarked for its plan to roll out state-of-the-art ultrafast fibre optic networks, which now serve 12.5 million homes.
The Romanian company has also invested part of this amount in implementing its plan to become a mobile operator with its own network. To achieve this, it has acquired 60 MHz of radio spectrum on the secondary market, which is expected to be deployed in the second half of the year.
Direct employment generation
In its latest quarterly report, which discloses its financial results, Digi also emphasises its commitment to employment. The company, which is active throughout the entire value chain and generates its own employment, offers its employees stability and career plans. This meant that at the end of the first quarter of the year it was already the operator with the second largest number of direct employees in Spain, with over 9,000 professionals under contract.
Digi’s workforce ranges from infrastructure staff for deploying its own fibre network to the professionals who serve the public at its call centres. In March, it opened the second of these centres in Seville, where it will create more than 130 jobs over the next few months, in addition to the one it operates in Madrid.
