Dow Jones opens global technology, data and AI centre in Spain

The expansion of the Catalan office includes creating over 60 new jobs.

The Dow Jones news group has announced the forthcoming expansion of its Barcelona office, which opened over 25 years ago. The group will also make the Barcelona office a strategic location for growth by transforming it into a global hub for innovation in technology, data and artificial intelligence. Specialising in business news, the US group puts out publications in a variety of formats, including The Wall Street Journal.

The expansion of the Catalan office includes creating more than 60 new jobs over the coming months. Recruitment is now open for these jobs, in disciplines ranging from data science to artificial intelligence, mobile engineering, software development, product management, user experience (UX) and quality assurance (QA).

Talent Week
The company has organised a Talent Week from 13 to 16 January to announce its expansion in Barcelona and attract people interested in joining the new project. Over four days, candidates have the opportunity to meet senior technology leaders at Dow Jones and get the first-hand information they are looking for about career opportunities at the company.

The company even expects up to 20 jobs to be filled during that week through a streamlined recruitment process, which prioritises the candidate and ensures quick decisions.

Talent and innovative spirit
Dow Jones’ Chief Technology Officer Artem Fishman said Barcelona plays “a key role in our long-term location strategy as we align our technology operations with Dow Jones' ambitious growth objectives”, and added, “Recognised as a world-class design and technology hub, the city offers a wealth of talent and an innovative spirit that resonates with our company values. By expanding our presence there, we are not only accelerating our growth trajectory as a global news and information company, but we are also adopting a ‘follow-the-sun’ model that will improve productivity and allow us to continually push the boundaries of innovation.”

Executive Vice President, General Manager for EMEA and Head of Data and Artificial Intelligence at Dow Jones, Ingrid Verschuren, explained that Barcelona has long been “an important location and a key contributor to the growth of the company's thriving business intelligence portfolio, including Dow Jones Risk & Compliance”, and concluded, “Over the past two decades, we have cultivated a diverse and inclusive workplace, bringing together colleagues of more than 40 nationalities who speak over 50 languages between them. I am especially proud of our efforts to increase opportunities for women in technology and look forward to growing our EMEA team as part of our commitment to attracting the best talent in the region.”
