Giant Animation opens first international office in Barcelona

Production will be split between Ireland and Spain, where it will hire highly skilled artists.

Animation studio Giant Animation has announced that it is opening its first office outside Ireland in Barcelona. Coinciding with its 15th anniversary, the Dublin-based company is embarking on an international expansion that reflects the significant growth it has experienced along the way.

In this new phase, Giant wants to strengthen and build on its partnerships with other international production companies. From its offices in both Ireland and Spain, it will continue to offer its services, both commissioned work as well as original and international co-productions for television and film.

Investment in the Spanish industry
From its new studio in Barcelona, Giant has announced that it will invest in the Spanish industry. Production for its upcoming projects will be split between Ireland and Spain, and the company will hire highly skilled artists in both countries for its projects. It will in addition, benefit from tax rebates for international production work carried out in Spain.

Opening the new office also responds to Giant's plan to expand its work-for-hire services, extend its production footprint within Europe and develop its global co-production model, building co-production relationships in Spain and the rest of the world.

Incredible talent
Giant Animation CEO Alex Sherwood described the expansion as “an important and exciting time for the studio and our team”, and explained, “Building on strong relationships within the industry, we look forward to the new opportunities the Spanish office will bring for co-productions and the process of developing our original intellectual property. Our new headquarters will allow us to expand our network of partners, while leveraging Spanish and Irish production incentives and incredible talent. We are excited about the road ahead, and Spain is the ideal place for us to realise our plans.”

Giant has produced projects as popular as Fairly OddParents: A New Wish! for Nickelodeon and Netflix, which became the top children's show in the United States. Its list of original IP projects includes its first computer-animated family feature, Milo (pictured), and the Rachel's Pet Parlour series, which will continue to be developed this year for pre-production in 2026.
