Green Solar and Suez team up to produce green hydrogen in Spain

The partnership’s first objective is to develop 250 megawatts of electrolysis capacity powered by renewable energy.

Dutch company Green Solar International (GSI), whose business activity is dedicated to developing large-scale renewable energy projects, and the French company Suez, which specialises in renewable gas management, have signed a strategic partnership agreement to produce green hydrogen in Spain. In addition to generating an alternative fuel to contribute to decarbonising key sectors, such as industry and heavy transport, this agreement aims to make this new joint venture a leader of the energy transition in Spain.

The agreement sets out that the first phase will involve developing 250 megawatts of on-site electrolysis capacity powered by renewable energy. The two partners value Spain's abundant solar and wind resources, which have served to place the country at the forefront of the green hydrogen race in Europe, and with the ambition of becoming an exporter of this clean fuel.

Over 300,000 jobs
The Managing Director of GSI Spain, Pepe León, says that the agreement reached with Suez is not limited to energy, “It is about creating significant, long-term benefits for communities and industries across Spain”.

Suez Air & Climate Spain’s Business Development Manager, Antonio Segura, said that adopting green hydrogen “will not only contribute to reducing CO2 emissions, but also has the potential to generate employment and foster local economic development”. The agreement between the two companies makes clear their commitment to driving “impactful change, both environmentally and economically, ensuring a sustainable future for Spain and beyond”.
