Volkswagen invests 59.2 million euros in expanding Navarre facilities

This investment is reserved for the expansion involving 5,390 square metres and 173 robots.

Volkswagen has earmarked 59.2 million euros to extend hall 1C at its plant in Navarre. 19.2 million of this figure has been allotted to civil engineering work, and the remaining 40 million has been allocated to acquiring productive resources, some of which have yet to be installed. 173 new robots have been assembled so far, adding to the 879 robots already in operation at the plant. They will be joined by a further 623 robots in the coming months.

The Volkswagen plant in Navarre has already inaugurated the extension of this body shop following work that has added 5,390 square metres to its surface area since June 2023. In addition, a 5,250 square metre logistics tent has been erected next to it. This new building will centralise the supply of the main parts used by the robots to assemble the bodywork.

Electrification process
The expansion of the body shop is part of the process to adapt the plant to produce electric vehicles by installing a new platform. In the words of Volkswagen Navarre's President, Michael Hobusch, “the electrification process at our factory is progressing on schedule thanks to the excellent teamwork shown by all departments”.

With the new electric platform in place, the factory is now undergoing further modifications to the body shop for completing the bodywork, as well as finalising the assembly of a new press and carrying out the necessary work to facilitate batteries arriving at the assembly shop.

Production volume
In 2024, the Navarre factory produced a total of 274,688 cars, 1,415 more than in 2023. This figure makes it the group's fourth largest plant in terms of production volume, with 9% of the cars assembled at the 17 Volkswagen plants worldwide. Only Wolfsburg (Germany), Puebla (Mexico) and Bratislava (Slovakia) produced more motor vehicles.

The increase in production corresponds to approximately one working day. This milestone was achieved while the plant was in the midst of major refurbishment work, preparing to launch two electric cars in 2026, one under the Volkswagen brand and the other by Škoda.
