iYogi plans to set up its first Spanish-speaking centre for excellence in customer services in Madrid

iYogi is the leading provider of online technical assistance services for consumers and small businesses, covering an extensive range of IT and communications devices and software. It was established in 2007 under the motto “Good Karma” by Uday Challu and Vishal Dhar, two friends who saw a good opportunity in the technical support market and opted from the start to go further and offer a more comprehensive service.

Apart from its native India, the company has a presence in the US, Canada, Australia, the UK and the GCC countries (Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates). Its entry to Spain is part of a European expansion strategy.

IYogi was recognised as one of the most innovative companies in the “Innovative 100” Awards, promoted by the magazine Inc. in its latest edition. According to Deloitte, it was also one of the three fastest-growing companies in India in 2010.

Reasons for setting up in Spain

We believe that Spain has a mature technological market which is seeing high rates of growth, so our entering the country is a very important step in our plans for expanding in Europe.

Moreover, Spanish is one of the world's most widely spoken languages, and our presence here will not only allow us to start working in a language that is increasingly important in the US, which is one of our main areas of operation, but also to penetrate the emerging Latin American market.

Projects for Spain now and in the future

According to a recent survey, more than 85% of the Spanish population use their tablets and mobile phones more than four hours a day. So our first objective is to introduce users of Movistar (currently 22 million) to this service and sign them up as as soon as possible. Also, we hope that our 'Guru' solution, which meets all the needs of the digital home, will become so popular that it will also reach other habitual users of technological devices that are not currently Movistar.

And in the medium to long term, we plan to create in Madrid our first centre of excellence in customer service in Spanish, to provide service from here to other Spanish-speaking countries.

Assessment of the ICT sector in Spain. What is your opinion of the Spanish ICT market and its professionals?

In the past ten years the Spanish ICT market has moved up multiple times in the European ranking, and is now placed among the top countries. This sector is one of the main drivers of employment in Spain, and it has a production capacity which it is important to maintain and promote.

We see a clear business opportunity in these data, and we are starting work on a joint venture with Telefónica, one of the biggest and most innovative telecom companies in the world.

Our assessment to date is very positive, since the Spanish company has some great professionals from the sector, its customers fit iYogi's user profile perfectly, and they enjoy the market's confidence, so we are convinced that they are the ideal partner for us in Spain.
