Why did you choose Spain for your growing?
To support further company growth, we needed to establish Ciklum presence in Western Europe, and Spain was an obvious choice after looking into France and Portugal as alternatives. Furthermore, on comparing Madrid, Barcelona and Malaga we ended up at the Malaga PTA due to a number of reasons including connectivity to main EU cities, costs, IT market, cooperation with universities, attractiveness of this destination for our employees from other countries, interest of our clients, etc.

How was your setting up?
Having really tight cooperation with PTA management, Invest in Spain and an extensive support from Malaga City Counsel, Ciklum has landed smoothly in Malaga and we are just starting to come into speed with hiring. Also we highly appreciate the help from IDEA on softlanding for our personnel whom we relocate to Malaga from Ukraine and Belorussia. For many of our existing clients willing to set up another development team in Malaga, moving part of the core team is a key for business continuity and productivity purposes. Thus support we are getting from Invest in Andalucia is essential.

How important is Spain in your structure now and how important do you plan it to be?
Coming to Spain was the right move for Ciklum as we see an increasing interest to this country from our clients’ side and also we can grow fast here. Local economy shows signs of recovery from crisis, so it is the right time to start operations Andalucia. We are still exploring more and more of local opportunities influencing positively the strategy for Malaga as a location. Meanwhile Ciklum R&D department have started cooperation with UMA on several programs including internship and Master’s degree programs. More will come.

What was your investment for setting up and how many employees have you recruited by today?
Ciklum has a big, modern office in the very heart of PTA styled in mariner style. We occupy one floor on Calle Severo Ochoa, 5 and next year are taking the second one. During the first half a year since opening we grew from zero to 40 employees and it is absolutely in line with our initial plan.

What are your next plans of growing, investing and recruiting in Spain?
Business model of Ciklum assumes constant growth. We plan to add at least 80-100 people a year in Malaga, combining foreigners relocated from other countries with local hiring and are really happy about having such a truly international team on board.
