IMEC reports on the progress of the future world-class semiconductor research centre in Malaga

The President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, met with the President and CEO of IMEC, Luc Van den Hove, at the Moncloa Complex to discuss the project to create a world-class semiconductor research centre in Malaga and the promotion of public-private collaboration..

During the meeting, the CEO of this world leader in research and development in nanoelectronics and digital innovation thanked the Prime Minister for his continued support for the project and for the close cooperation between the Spanish and Belgian governments, which is a boost for greater pan-European cooperation in the semiconductor sector.

Van den Hove also conveyed to Pedro Sánchez IMEC's strong commitment to Spain and its interest in integrating with the Spanish scientific and semiconductor ecosystem to build a strong European R&D collaboration. The meeting also addressed the European Union's strategic agenda for the coming years in the semiconductor sector.

IMEC signed a collaboration agreement with the Spanish government in July 2023 for the creation of a research centre in Malaga in specialised technologies for the manufacture of advanced chips. The future centre, the first of its kind outside Belgium, will contribute to boosting the microelectronics ecosystem through a new research centre in Malaga.
