Lightsource BP to invest 1 billion euros. Plans to create 4,000 jobs as part of new project in Spain

The new portfolio of solar PV parks will be commissioned in 2026.

Lightsource BP, a BP group company specialising in the development and management of solar energy projects, has received the administrative authorisation that will allow it to start construction of a 1.3-GWp portfolio in Spain over the next two years. The ambitious project will mobilise an investment of more than 1 billion euros and generate 4,000 jobs during the construction phase.

According to the developer, the new portfolio of solar PV parks will be operational from 2026. These assets will be in addition to the 400 MWp of capacity that the British company has already built and connected in Spain, and the 235 megawatts it has developed up to the “ready to build” stage and which are currently being built by third parties.

A particularly competitive context
Lightsource BP's Country Head for Spain, Luis Canton, says, “Having a portfolio of 1.3 gigawatts of solar energy projects already approved for construction is a milestone that not only reflects the quality and dedication that goes into project development, but on which also reinforces our commitment to the Spanish market in a particularly competitive context.”

The company prides itself on promoting the development of its projects with a socially and environmentally responsible approach. As Cantón points out, “The construction of these plants will help generate new opportunities to boost the local economy, promoting job creation in the areas where the projects are located and other benefits for the local community”.

Five major projects
Five sets of projects make up the new portfolio due to start construction. The Tagus 1 and 2 plants, located in the municipalities of Ontígola and Ocaña, both in the province of Toledo, will have a total installed capacity of 500 MWp. The Valle 3 and Valle 4 projects in Wamba (Valladolid) will add 330 MWp. In the same province but on a smaller scale, the Adaja I, Sinfonía I and El Caballero plants, which make up the Olmedo portfolio, will have a capacity of 155 MWp.

The Guadame portfolio, in Bujalance (Córdoba), will consist of the El Caballo 1, El Caballo 2 and El Caballo 3 plants, and will have a total installed capacity of 114 MWP. Finally, the five plants included in the Guillena project, with a capacity of 247 MWp, will be built in the Seville municipalities of Guillena, Burguillos and Alcalá del Río.
