Japanese companies have revealed their positive outlook on the economy, according to a report by CEJE.
Japanese companies operating in Spain reveal a positive outlook on their performance and short- and medium-term expectations in the country, thanks to the current stability and their confidence in the future. This is according to the Spain-Japan Business Climate report, prepared by the Japan-Spain Business Circle (CEJE), which forecasts a strengthening of these companies' positions in the Spanish market.

In addition, more than 70% expect an improvement in short-term business prospects and 90% plan to maintain or increase their level of investment in our country, a figure that demonstrates their confidence in the Spanish economic environment and in the soundness of already consolidated projects.
More than 400 companies
This is not a recent trend, but rather the confirmation of a long-standing one. Japan was actually the leading Asian investor in Spain between 2010 and 2023, with a volume of nearly €9.2 billion. This figure exceeded the amount achieved by Chinese companies by 30%. The number of Japanese companies in Spain has in addition grown by more than 70% in the last decade, and there are now 400 that have a stable presence or stake in Spanish companies.
The sectors most represented by Japanese investment in Spain are electricity and renewables, automotive and IT, along with a chemical industry that continues to play a historically significant role. The Japanese business model follows strategic areas based on quality, commitment and long-term vision, and with which it seeks to differentiate itself in an increasingly competitive environment.
A strategic partner
According to CEJE, Spain is also a strategic partner for Japan in the EU, which values its combination of talent, infrastructure and opportunities in sectors of the future.
The report concludes that Japanese companies in the country ‘are moving determinedly towards a new phase of expansion’. It concludes by highlighting their commitment to innovation, sustainability and bilateral cooperation as a decisive factor that makes them a key partner for Spain's economic development in the coming years.
