Indaqua strengthens presence in Spanish water market

The group is acquiring Hidrogestión to strengthen its position in Spain, which is one of its priorities after having experienced strong growth.
The Portuguese group Indaqua has once again shown its commitment to the Spanish market with its second acquisition in two years. Following the acquisition of Fusosa in 2023, it has now incorporated Hidrogestión, which manages 11 water and wastewater concessions in several regions and serves over 53,000 people. Owned until now by Cobra IS, a subsidiary of the Vinci Group, the company acquired employs around 100 people.
This transaction reinforces Indaqua's presence in the Spanish market, one of the company’s most competitive in the world and one of its priorities, due to the marked growth it is experiencing.
Network and infrastructure management
By purchasing Fusosa, Indaqua was the first Portuguese company to enter the Spanish water supply industry. This subsidiary currently serves 25,000 people in the regions of Muro and Alcudia on the island of Mallorca.
Seven of Hidrogestión's concessions are in the province of Toledo and the other four are in La Rioja, León, Jaén and Granada. It also provides water and sanitation operation services in other regions.
Fusosa and Hidrogestión share over 30 years’ experience in areas like water quality control and the management of networks and infrastructure, such as wastewater treatment plants (WWTP), as well as in investigating and repairing leaks in the supply network.
Resources, competence and experience
Indaqua Group President Enrique Castiblanques said, “Spain is currently facing enormous challenges in the integral water cycle, both in terms of the systems’ financial sustainability and in managing water sources and resources. Indaqua has the resources, competence and experience to make a concrete contribution to solving these problems, specifically through reducing losses, technology or applying technological solutions for efficient network management.”
For Castiblanques, Hidrogestión constitutes “an excellent platform for growing the Indaqua Group in this highly competitive, dynamic and developed market, and where we intend to continue growing through concession tenders with the support of our shareholders”.
Water efficiency is one of the areas in which Indaqua has managed to excel in Portugal, with four of the municipalities having the lowest water loss rates. The company has also contributed to improving the performance of dozens of municipalities across the country through short-term projects.
