MasOrange boosts Catalonia investment with 640 million until 2027

The operator has already generated more than 6,000 jobs in this region.

MasOrange has announced the investment package it is allocating to Catalonia for the period 2024-2027, with the aim of helping to accelerate its technological progress and digitalisation and making it a European benchmark for innovation. The company, which has invested more than 5 billion euros in the region throughout its history, will invest another 640 million in high-capacity fixed and mobile networks and technology.

The brand, the result of the merger between Orange and Masmóvil, has created more than 6,000 jobs in Catalonia and has more than 5.7 million households and 900,000 businesses among its customers. Its commitment to the region is reflected, for example, in the choice of Barcelona for some of its most innovative launches, such as 5G and 5G SA network technologies, 10-gigawatt XSPON and VoNR. The Catalan capital is also home to the first European APIs Open Gateway laboratory, promoted by MasOrange together with Telefónica, Vodafone and the i2cat research centre.

European technological forefront
MasOrange CEO Meinrad Spenger explained, "Our commitment to Catalonia is strategic, and we want to support the region in positioning itself at the forefront of European technology by investing in it so that we can offer its citizens and businesses the most modern and advanced telecommunications networks and the most innovative services. Some of the innovations we are developing in Catalonia are helping to drive our success as the fastest-growing telecoms company in Europe."

Some of MasOrange's most innovative projects have been rolled out in Catalonia. This is the case of the private 5G SA network at the port of Barcelona, a project for logistics operations covering 24 square kilometres of land and sea. Its innovations include remotely controlled cranes, in real time and with total safety. It also uses aquatic and aerial drones with 5G SA technology to monitor the seabed, detect spills and control air and water quality, among other possibilities, and transmit live to the port police control centre.

The most connected stadium in the world
With its participation in the renovation of Camp Nou, the company is also helping to make it the most connected stadium in the world, with the aim of improving the experience of fans, employees and the media. It is a sustainable project that saves energy by turning off the network when it is not in use.

Other projects in which MasOrange is involved in Catalonia include the modernisation of mobile and fixed communications at Casa Batlló and the use of AI and big data to improve visitor management; mobile coverage at the America's Cup regatta course for tracking competition boats and security forces; and the Idiada private mobile network to facilitate an innovation environment for autonomous and connected vehicles.
