Opdenergy strengthens Spanish position with new wind power assets investment
It has acquired 13 wind farms in five autonomous communities for €500 million.
Energy producer Opdenergy has closed a deal in Spain that will increase its global renewable energy portfolio by around 25%. The deal involves the purchase of 440 MW of operational wind assets distributed across 13 wind farms in five autonomous communities, and for which it has paid Acciona Energía €500 million.
The deal, which will increase its annual production by approximately one terawatt hour, strengthens its presence in autonomous communities that the company considers strategic. The assets are in fact located in the provinces of Albacete, Cádiz, Cuenca, Lérida, Valencia and Zamora.
Financial stability
Following the completion of the purchase, the company, whose majority shareholder is the French private equity firm Antin Infrastructure Partners, specialising in infrastructure investments, has reached an operating capacity of 2.4 GW. In Spain, more than 75% of its revenue is secured through long-term power purchase agreements, which provide financial stability for its investments.
In addition to the projects already in operation, the agreement with Acciona Energía includes another 351 MW of photovoltaic power under development, which can be hybridised with the wind farms in its new portfolio. All these assets, both those already in operation and those under development, are classified by Opdenergy as low risk and generate recurring cash flows.
Optimisation potential
Opdenergy CEO Luis Cid explains, ‘With the completion of this transaction, we are adding a set of high-quality assets with consolidated performance and significant optimisation potential, strengthening our platform as a long-term independent operator. This milestone supports our multi-technology approach as independent energy producers and contributes to the advancement of our strategic roadmap.’
With more than twenty years of experience in the renewable energy market, Opdenergy has a portfolio under development of 10.5 GW of solar and wind energy, in addition to 30 GWh of storage capacity. 80%of its operating assets are located in Europe and the United States, with a significant presence also in Chile and Mexico.
