SeaLead strengthens Europe presence with new Spanish subsidiary

The Emirati shipping company will operate from Barcelona and plans to open branches in other key locations.

Singapore-based Emirati shipping company SeaLead has announced that it is reinforcing its presence in Europe by establishing a subsidiary in Spain. This initiative is at the same time a significant step in the company’s global expansion process. The new subsidiary is based in Barcelona and is expected to start operations immediately.

To support the new Spanish office, and in order to improve connectivity within Spain, SeaLead is also evaluating the possibility of opening additional offices in other key locations. The company began operating a scheduled service between Spain, Turkey and Morocco (STM) in September 2024.

Efficient transport solutions
The STM service covers the Spanish ports of Barcelona and Valencia, and complements an extensive network through which SeaLead offers connections between Europe, Asia, the Middle East, the East Coast of North America, South America and Africa. Launching the Spanish subsidiary emphasises SeaLead's commitment to enhancing its network and offering efficient transport solutions in Europe and the Mediterranean, where it aims to consolidate its position.

The company has appointed Albert Oñate as Managing Director of the new subsidiary. Control of operations in Spain is thus in the hands of a professional with over 40 years’ experience in the national and international shipping industry. Oñate’s previous positions include Director of China Shipping in Spain, and until 2023 he headed Cosco Shipping in the Spanish market.

Key global markets
SeaLead's Regional Managing Director for Europe and the Mediterranean, Kadir Oruc, welcomed Oñate and said, “His extensive industry knowledge and leadership will drive our expansion in Spain, and our new office further strengthens SeaLead's ability to connect Europe and the Mediterranean with key global markets”.

Oñate did in turn explain, “SeaLead's establishment in Spain recognises the strategic importance of this market within Europe and the Mediterranean. We are committed to strengthening our network and improving connectivity to meet growing demand. With the new office in Barcelona, SeaLead is optimally positioned to support manufacturers, importers, exporters and logistics partners worldwide.”
