Statkraft to build first wind-solar project in Burgos Spain

The company will invest around 45 million euros and create 75 jobs during its construction phase.
Renewable energy company Statkraft is currently processing its first solar-wind hybrid project in Spain, in which it will invest around 45 million euros. Located in the municipalities of Ausines, Ibeas de Juarros, Arceo de Burgos and Revilla del Campo, in the province of Burgos, the Abrazadilla project will create 75 jobs during its construction phase and will have a total installed capacity of 38 MW.
This new project by the Norwegian company in the province of Burgos will consist of three wind turbines with a total of 21.6 MWp of installed power, in addition to 16.5 MW of solar panels. At the moment, it already has the permit for access and connection to the electricity grid, as well as offering environmental sustainability after obtaining the environmental impact assessment report. Now the public information period will begin, a step prior to obtaining the prior administrative and planning permission.
Better use of natural resources
Statkraft’s Business Development Manager in Spain, Rodrigo Álvarez, explained, “This innovative project, which combines both renewable energy sources, could involve an investment of around 45 million euros. In this way, we are making the most of the advantages brought by both technologies, benefiting from a better use of natural resources and achieving a more constant and stable supply.”
The announcement was made during the inauguration of the Cernégula wind farm, located in the Burgos municipalities of Los Altos, Padrones de Bureba, Poza de la Sal, Merindad de Río Ubierna and Abajas. This is the company’s second wind farm in Castile and León and in the province of Burgos, where it already operates the Páramo de Poza complex, with an installed capacity of 101 MWp.
Pioneer in renewable development
According to Álvarez, the Cernégula project “highlights our company’s commitment to this autonomous region, and specifically to the province of Burgos, where we already have another wind farm in operation, the Páramo de Poza wind farm. Castile and León was a pioneer in developing renewable energy in Spain, and Statkraft is willing to contribute to maintaining that leadership, from an approach of dialogue and understanding with all parties involved.”
Construction of the Cernégula project began in December 2023, and has involved an investment of 54 million euros and the creation of 140 jobs. It has eight wind turbines and a total installed capacity of 47MWp.
Statkraft, which has had a presence in Spain since 2018, currently operates 11 solar plants and seven wind farms in six autonomous communities, with a total capacity of 1.4 GW, 650 MW of which are owned by Statkraft, and with another 730 MW belonging to third parties.
