Dachser begins construction of a new logistics platform in Álava
Investing €20 million in a facility set to become a hub for exports to Europe.
German logistics company Dachser has begun construction of a new logistics platform in Vitoria (Álava), in which it will invest €20 million. The new facility will act as a hub for exports to Europe, while also strengthening the company’s operational capacity in Northern Spain. It will serve customers handling palletised goods between the Iberian Peninsula, the rest of Europe, the islands and Morocco.
Construction work has begun two months after the project’s official foundation stone was laid at the Júndiz industrial estate, located on one of the main logistics corridors between the Iberian Peninsula and Europe. When it becomes operational, as is expected for summer 2027, the new platform will not only boost the company’s operations but also help improve international connectivity for exporting businesses.
Flexible, scalable design
Set on a 50,000-square-metre plot, the building now under construction will feature a flexible, scalable design that will make it possible for operations to adapt to changing demand. It will feature a 9,200-square-metre cross-docking facility, which can be expanded to 12,700 square metres in the future. It will also include 1,900 square metres of office space.
The platform aims to become a logistics hub equipped to efficiently manage domestic and international flows of goods. To achieve this, it will have a total of 90 loading bays, 140 spaces for swap bodies and 110 vehicle parking spaces. The centre will be equipped to handle more than two thousand shipments and around one thousand tonnes of goods per day.
Advanced management and traceability systems
In terms of technology, this new infrastructure will incorporate advanced management and traceability systems alongside Dachser Platform, the in-house digital platform for planning, tracking and managing shipments. It will also feature advanced energy management systems and a photovoltaic plant that will generate some of the energy consumed, as well as charging points for electric vehicles.
Diego Dopicio, General Business Manager for Dachser Iberia’s northern region, says: “With this project, we are strengthening our commitment to the Basque Country and to the business community in Northern Spain. The new platform will enable us to continue supporting our customers as they expand internationally, with infrastructure ready to accommodate growth in the years ahead and deliver an increasingly efficient, connected and reliable service.”
