Salko Group chooses Spain to expand its model into the European market
It is opening a subsidiary with an initial investment of three million euros and plans to create one hundred skilled jobs.
Salko Group, a British company specialising in mechanical and electrical engineering solutions for the energy, industrial, mining and nuclear sectors, has begun operations in Spain with the opening of its first offices in Badalona (Barcelona). Founded in the United Kingdom in 2000, it has chosen Spain to expand its working model into the European market.
In this initial phase, the new Spanish subsidiary plans to invest three million euros and create around one hundred jobs. It has already begun recruiting for mechanical and electrical engineering (M&E) roles in the energy, industrial, mining and nuclear sectors. Vacancies include technical field advisers (TFA), supervisors, specialist technicians, pipefitters, boilermakers, certified welders and plant safety support staff.
Comprehensive project management
In Spain, from where it intends to expand its services and operations across the European Union, Salko has adopted the same operating model it has used for twenty-five years, covering everything from design to supply, including the assignment of individual specialists and comprehensive project management. Its clients include internationally renowned companies such as General Electric, Engie and Nomac.
From the United Kingdom, the company has progressively refined its organisational structure and expansion strategy to continue developing its diverse areas of expertise and accommodate the natural evolution of the services it offers. For example, in response to net zero emissions targets, it has strengthened high-demand specialisms for nuclear projects and steam turbines to fulfil contracts over the next eighteen months.
Highly demanding technical work
Salko Spain’s director, Deborah Harman, explained that the new subsidiary “brings twenty-five years of experience and the highest standards of quality and safety, proven in the United Kingdom, with a strong focus on the energy sector”. He adds: “Beyond the general industrial sector, this arrival represents a key opportunity to highlight our expertise in repairing gas turbines and exhaust systems, highly demanding technical work that is one of the main reasons why GE places its trust in us.”
According to José María Guerrero, head of business development, the sector “is going through a challenging period: a shortage of talent and difficulty finding qualified professionals, particularly in mechanical and electrical engineering. One of Salko Spain’s core missions is to address this situation through a commitment to ongoing training and professional upskilling for our teams. We believe that training workers is not merely a short-term response to the shortage of skilled professionals in the market, but a long-term commitment to ensuring that the sector continues to grow in Spain and Europe”.
