Volkswagen Navarra begins first electric vehicle production
This milestone marks the culmination of the plant’s electrification process, in which Volkswagen invested 220 million euros in 2025.
Volkswagen has begun production of the ID. Cross, the brand’s first electric vehicle to roll off the production line at its Pamplona plant in Navarre. The new SUV will go on sale in 34 countries. This milestone completes the plant’s electrification process, which the company says safeguards its future and preserves jobs.
The commissioning of the new production line also completes the industrial launch of the family of urban electric cars under the Brand Group Core synergies project. With four models from three brands manufactured in Spain – the Volkswagen ID. Polo and ID. Cross, Škoda Epiq and Cupra Raval – this project demonstrates the German group’s commitment to Spain.
Over 220 million euros invested
The Navarre plant has produced more than 10 million vehicles over its sixty-year history. In recent years, it has undergone an ambitious transformation process to embrace electrification. In 2025 alone, it received more than 220 million euros in investment for work relating to the two electric models assigned to it, the Volkswagen ID. Cross and the Škoda Epiq.
Employees at the plant have received more than 290,000 hours of training to prepare them for electric vehicle production. In addition to the two electric models, the plant currently produces the Volkswagen T-Cross and Taigo combustion-engine models. This makes it one of the Group’s most flexible and competitive plants.
Four models, two technologies
Volkswagen CEO Thomas Schäfer specifically highlights this ability to produce four models for two brands by using two technologies, stating that “very few plants in the world can do this”. In his opinion, the ID. Cross represents “a very important step for our brand and for our customers in Europe, who expect us to deliver attractive, reliable and, above all, affordable electric cars”.
Michael Hobusch, for his part, President of Volkswagen Navarra, is not only delighted at “the production of a new model, but also the culmination of a transformation that strengthens our competitiveness, helps safeguard jobs and cements Volkswagen Navarra’s position as a benchmark in the automotive industry”.
Finally, André Kleb, Chief Production Officer for the Iberian Peninsula, is confident in our region’s increasingly important role within the Group as it “continues on its journey towards becoming a highly competitive and flexible region”.
