Kruk plans to further expand its team and capabilities as part of its 2025–2029 strategy..

KRUK was established in Poland in 1998 as a financial services company specialising in debt management and debt recovery. Its core business is the acquisition and management of debt portfolios, and it stresses that its main feature is the ethical and personalised approach with which it works. The company helps people to regularise their financial situation in a way that is sustainable and adapted to their real possibilities.

In 2025, KRUK celebrates its first decade in Spain, during which time it has helped resolve the debt of 416,000 people. Its workforce in Spain now totals 500 employees, 200 more than in 2022, when its General Manager, Aliana Giurgea, already defined the country as a strategic market for the company at a global level.

In 2022, she told us that they were very happy with their trajectory in Spain. What is the outlook now, three years later?

The outlook remains very positive. The last three years have seen consolidation and sustained growth. We have strengthened our position in the Spanish market, which continues to be a strategic one for the group. A very illustrative fact is that today we have over 200 additional professionals compared to 2022. Moreover, 2025 is a particularly significant year: we are celebrating our tenth anniversary in Spain – a decade marked by our commitment to people and building a responsible business model.

How have you celebrated this tenth anniversary?

We are celebrating as we do best: by putting people at the heart of it all. This anniversary coincides with the launch of our new 2025–2029 strategy, which is coordinated around three main areas: growing by expanding our operations, improving the efficiency of our processes and consolidating the digital transformation to be more agile, scalable and closer to our customers. This milestone not only represents a celebration, but also a new phase full of opportunities.

Have you continued to buy debt portfolios from other institutions?

Portfolio acquisition is the core of our business, and we maintain an ongoing strategy in this respect. We work with leading financial institutions, always prioritising quality over volume and ensuring that portfolios fit our risk profile. This discipline allows us to ensure long-term sustainability and stability.

What investment has the company made in these transactions?

At a Group level, KRUK maintains a sustainable and prudent investment policy. In the first half of 2025, our total revenues amounted to PLN 1.6 billion (around 374.7 million euros), a year-on-year increase of 8%. As one of our priority markets, Spain continues to receive significant investment to expand operations.

Have you also invested in technology to adapt to the new needs of a constantly evolving fintech market?

Yes, digital transformation is one of the strategic pillars of our 2025–2029 roadmap. We are incorporating innovative solutions that encompass self-management platforms, advanced data analysis systems and tools that enable people to manage their debts autonomously, securely and easily. The aim is twofold: to gain efficiency and to improve the customer experience. We are already seeing tangible results that reinforce our scalability and quality of service.

With 200 more employees than three years ago, what is the subsidiary’s growth outlook?

We are very proud of this growth. It reflects the Group’s firm commitment to Spain as a strategic market. We are continuing to recruit diverse and specialised talent in key areas. As we move forward with implementing the 2025–2029 strategy, we plan to continue to expand our team and capabilities.

Is Spain still a strategic country for the business?

There’s no doubt about that. Spain is a mature market, with a sound regulatory framework and major opportunities for the debt management industry. Our priority is to consolidate Spain’s potential and to continue building long-term relationships characterised by trust.

What is the level of Spaniards’ financial education?

According to the 3rd KRUK Observatory, 40% of people in debt admit to having a low level of knowledge regarding financial and debt management. This reflects the fact that financial education is still an unfinished business. At KRUK Spain, we firmly believe that promoting it is key to preventing over-indebtedness and empowering people to make better economic decisions.

What projects do you currently have underway?

One of our most ambitious projects is the digital transformation of our operations, accompanied by ethical adaptation to recent regulatory changes. The challenge goes beyond technology: it is about transforming the customer experience and changing the perception of the industry, demonstrating that it is possible to manage debt responsibly, transparently and closely. Our philosophy is clear: to continue to strive for excellence, asking ourselves every day how we can improve.
