10% of the over 300 brands that Nedgis sells via its online lighting business are Spanish.

Founded in France in 2015, Nedgis is an online company specialising in lighting and designer lamps that combines design and technology. Its creators, Audrey Vifquain and Claire Bacquart, are committed to exclusive products conceived by European designers, with the aim of welcoming customers who are not just looking for functionality, but also a source of inspiration to transform their interior spaces.

In Spain, Nedgis has not only replicated the model that has been successful in France and other European countries, but it has also opted to incorporate local brands into its catalogue. This commitment to the Spanish market is reflected in a clear objective: to increase turnover by 15% by 2025.

What did you expect from the Spanish market when you arrived in the country? Has it met your expectations?

When we launched the site in May 2024, we thought we would enter the market slowly. And that is exactly what is happening. Initially, the most important thing was to raise awareness of the brand and the catalogue we offer. This stage is already well advanced. Next, we wanted to have a presence in the main digital spaces for the Spanish decoration market, so that potential customers could find us. And this too is underway.

Nedgis is an anagram of design and also  signed, which refers to the creators. What differentiates Nedgis from its competitors?

What sets us apart is the depth of our catalogue. We currently work with over 300 brands and have more than 250,000 items available on our website. Our main strength lies in the new features we add every day. We are always on the lookout for small brands that stand out for their know-how, culture, technology or design vision.

How important is Spain for the company’s strategy?

We are a French company and growing in other European markets is very important for us. Spain is a very strong market in Southern Europe and, for Nedgis, having a strong presence in this region is essential. As for our offering, we work with many Spanish design brands, such as LZF, Santa & Cole, Marset, LEDs C4 and others. And we know that it is a very dynamic market. Therefore, consolidating the launch in Spain is key to establishing our brand in Southern Europe.

What investments have you made in Spain to start up the business?

We have decided to manage operations in the Spanish market from France, as we do with the other European markets where we have a presence. So, our investments have mainly focused on marketing and public relations. For the time being, we have not hired any employees in Spain. We will see how the situation evolves and whether adjustments are necessary in the future.

How do you approach the search for designers and brands in Spain to incorporate them into your catalogue?

We participate in European trade fairs, which allows us to discover new brands. We also actively search social networks like Instagram, Pinterest and LinkedIn for brands that share our values, in order to include them in our catalogue. Some designers contact us directly to present their products, and we evaluate the proposal internally, according to the current catalogue and the expectations of our customers. We currently work with over 300 brands, 10% of which are Spanish.

What is your customer profile in Spain?

The profile of our customers is very similar in all the countries where we operate. We mainly target women between 30 and 65 years old, with a medium-high purchasing power and a strong interest in interior design and decoration.

Do you plan to strengthen the company’s structure in Spain in the future?

As we operate exclusively in a digital environment and manage everything from France, we do not plan to create a team in Spain for the time being. Some of our commercial advisors already speak Spanish, and we are reinforcing our internal teams with staff who can serve our Spanish-speaking customers directly, especially in terms of communication and customer service tasks.
