Webinar: Sustainable food production in Spain and North Rhine-Westphalia
The food processing industry in NRW (North Rhine-Westphalia) is of great importance: around 1,000 companies with almost 96,000 employees and a turnover of approximately 36 billion euros make it the largest food industry in Germany. Both large, globally active companies as well as small and medium-sized enterprises are represented. However, the characteristic feature of the sector in NRW is the strong structure of small and medium-sized companies.
With a turnover of almost 140 billion euros, more than 30,000 companies and more than 440,000 employees, Spain is the fourth largest agri-food producer in Europe and the tenth largest in the world. The Spanish agri-food industry is highly innovative and dynamic and accounts for almost 20% of the country's total exports. The innovation ecosystem is rapidly consolidating, showing a strong commitment of companies and private institutions to achieve an increasingly efficient, competitive and sustainable food system.
